In a world where there is much activity, uncertainty, and chaos, I feel the need to produce something that inspires, brings order and calms.  I’ve found the ultimate tool- art! I believe that through color and design, I can change the atmosphere of my environment.

One of my favorite tools of art is oil painting. I choose to paint with oils, because they allow me the ability to be spontaneous and expressive.

When I am inspired by something or someone that affects me, defines me, or delights me-I paint. In my own artistic language, I can express the favor or pleasure I have towards it or them. To paint something that does not inspire me is equal to dating someone, for whom I have no interest or attraction to- someone I would not feel any compellation to introduce to others as my companion.

I usually use warm colors when painting- they give me a sense of comfort, as do the people and things to which I am attracted. I paint loosely, because it allows me to make a timely and honest statement about my subjects, which are usually people, natural still life and landscapes.

When I make figurative or portrait paintings, I feel the need to communicate what manner of “spirit” is within the individual(s). Are they kind, stern, innocent…? Until I have done so, I feel that my painting is undone. Likewise, when I paint an object or landscape, I wish for others to see the beauty or significance that I see.

A finished work of art, that successfully portrays the life and personality that I intended it to, always reminds me of my own Creator, who graciously allows me to mimic His glory. I feel like an author; I feel in control; and I feel honored to have been given such a gift.

My ultimate satisfaction is to have an individual look at my work and express that they see what I have seen, feel what I felt and can relate to what I have related.
